So here we are, girlgangunderground.org is now officially ours again. As Stacy mentioned a little while ago, we are undergoing major changes here at IGGU, and we want your input.

We are looking for a few good writers / artists (of ALL kinds) / list-makers / reviewers / et cetera. Yes, this means YOU! In the spirit of zine-ing, you need no “official” experience, but of course we’d like to see samples from your personal zines or blogs on IGGU-related topics.

For a bit about what we’re looking for, here’s the original call for submissions:

International Girl Gang Underground is going to exist largely on the internet for the near future. While we’ll be getting all of the print material from Issue 1 transferred here, we are accepting brand new content online. There is a submit tab that you can use, as well, please e-mail us (girlgangunderground at gmail dot com) if you’d like to contribute regularly. We’ll be getting in touch with past contributors to the physical zine in the coming weeks.

We are super excited for the future, and for you to join the Gang!

Friends—

Apologies for the technical difficulties. I’ve (Stacy) finally gotten it together to change the domain name name over from our old host, and a few issues arose with the its migration. And of content.

We’re moving everything off of our paid hosting service to the pages of Tumblr, as it has two great things going for it: a) there’s an engaged feminist/queer community in place and b) it’s free. We want to bring our content closer to you, instead of making you come to us. We’re hoping the move will result in more participation and conversation, two things to which we’re committed.

With this change may come some differences in usability and features; we’re hoping to keep our directory, reviews, and articles intact, but there’s a chance that some things might go away. We’ll let you know if that happens.

Further, we wanted to share the good news that, once the migration is complete, all articles published in theInternational Girl Gang Undergroundzine (not just our excellent online exclusives) will be made freely available online, under a CC-BY-NC license.

Finally, you should know that some changes in editorship will be taking place in the next few months. While I’m going to remain on board as a web editor and founder, KW (who’s been doing a majority of organizing, booking, and promotion on behalf of the IGGUzine and Girl Gang Gig Volume for more than a year now) will be the sole editor of the zine. She’ll announce opportunities soon for those of you who want to up your contribution to the IGGU community.

Thank you to KW for being such an amazing ally and friend. And to all of our contributors and readers for participating in this experiment.

we are currently in the midst of making frantic last minute edits to Hoax #5. we plan to print by the end of next week!

In case you haven’t already heard, issue #5 is about feminism and COMMUNITY! essays include: core requirements for a “safe space”; a manifesta written as the basis for the mother ourselves bootcamp for queer folks of color; supporting those who are new to feminism; notes from a trans*feminist; queer land movements; community in the punk scene; environmental consciousness and ecofeminist policy; a comic about food co-ops; looking to create community for one’s child; a coming of age story about radicalization through queer internet forums and punk rock; thoughts on collectives; wanting a more intersectionary feminist community; rethinking personal feminist politics; a comic about the cons of “women’s space;” reflections of a soon-to-be community organizer; a short introduction to the amish community; an intersectional feminist library short list; girl-on-girl crime & the need for unity amongst women; a reinvestigation on sexual assault; the effects of a family member’s suicide; reflections of zine release party that implemented as “safer space” policy; and how the labor movement has helped feminism! also includes an interview with the editors, original art/comics, prose, feminist we love, and vegan recipes! 1/2 size, 72 pages, b&w, and super text heavy! asking $4 or trade!

compiling this issue of hoax has made both of us want to give back to our communities in more ways than one. we have talked at length about donating some of the proceeds from this issue to give back to those who support others. after much deliberation, we decided that it makes the most sense to give a cause that is currently the closet to us and reflects a current, immediate need that we are faced with. sari’s dog bo recently blew out his knee and needs a costly surgery before he can walk painlessly again. the entire surgery must be paid for by their family out of pocket and will be a major financial strain. we have therefore decided to pledge 10% of the proceeds of each issue purchased from us through september to support bo’s surgery. you can read more about bo’s condition and sari’s fundraising effortshere.
